A staff cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food according to recipes, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and following all health and safety standards. Key duties include preparing ingredients, cooking dishes, ensuring food quality, managing inventory, and collaborating with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations. Responsibilities
- Food preparation and cooking:
- Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, and measuring.
- Cook dishes like appetizers, entrees, and desserts using various methods like grilling, frying, and baking.
- Follow recipes and dietary guidelines accurately, ensuring portion control and proper taste.
- Plate and garnish dishes according to established standards.
- Kitchen management:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized work area and equipment.
- Monitor food inventory, check for freshness, and assist with ordering supplies.
- Properly store food, follow stock rotation procedures, and manage waste.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including temperature and HACCP logs.
- Teamwork and communication:
- Collaborate with other kitchen staff, servers, and management to ensure efficient service.
- Assist with menu planning and contribute to improving existing recipes.
- Communicate any equipment issues or other concerns to management.
Qualifications
- Previous kitchen or culinary experience.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and food safety practices.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management, multitasking, and communication skills.
- A passion for food and commitment to quality and presentation.
