Key responsibilities
- Food preparation and cooking: Prepare and cook a variety of Indian dishes, including curries, biryanis, and tandoori items, following authentic recipes and standards.
- Kitchen management: Manage kitchen operations, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety is maintained at all times.
- Inventory and ordering: Monitor food stock, manage inventory, and place orders for necessary supplies to ensure freshness and availability.
- Menu and recipe development: Plan menus, and may be involved in creating new dishes or improving existing recipes, while maintaining the authenticity of the cuisine.
- Staff supervision: Supervise and train junior kitchen staff, ensuring they follow recipes and cooking techniques accurately.
- Quality control: Ensure consistent quality, portion size, and presentation of dishes to meet restaurant standards.
Key skills and qualifications
- Culinary skills: Extensive knowledge of Indian spices, regional cuisines, and cooking techniques is essential.
- Experience: Experience in a professional kitchen environment is often required. Specialized skills like tandoori or curry making are a plus.
- Knowledge of hygiene standards: A strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and hygiene regulations is crucial.
- Organizational skills: Ability to manage time effectively, organize kitchen operations, and handle inventory and orders.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff and management to ensure smooth service.
