Import Ocean Freight Manager

The successful candidate will lead and manage the import ocean freight operations for FCL, LCL, and consolidation.

  • The Import Ocean Freight Manager is responsible for developing pricing strategies, negotiating rates with carriers, and maintaining strong relationships with shipping lines, co-loaders, and overseas agents.
  • They oversee pre-alerts, booking coordination, documentation, customs compliance, and end-to-end import shipment handling.
  • The Import Ocean Freight Manager coordinates with internal departments (sales, documentation, customer service, and finance) to ensure timely cargo clearance and delivery.
  • Ensuring compliance with all local and international import regulations, customs laws, and trade compliance requirements is a key responsibility.
  • Developing and implementing SOPs to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround time for import processes is also a crucial task.
  • The Import Ocean Freight Manager manages and mentors the import operations team – allocates resources, sets KPIs, monitors performance, and provides ongoing training.
  • Monitoring departmental P&L, ensuring cost control, and preparing regular budgets are additional responsibilities.
  • Collaborating with the sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and grow the import customer base is essential.
  • Maintaining high standards of customer service, promptly resolving issues, and ensuring consistent client satisfaction are key objectives.
  • Generating regular MIS/reports for senior management on import operations, cost efficiency, and process improvements is also required.

Required Skills & Experience:

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of international import practices, customs clearance procedures, documentation, and INCOTERMS.

Excellent leadership and people management abilities are necessary for success in this role.

Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills are also required.
