Role Overview
The Head – Logistics (HL) is the strategic business leader responsible for steering EMPHORIA's logistics operations across Odisha towards profitable growth, operational excellence, and ecosystem stability.
This role integrates business development, client retention, financial discipline, operational reliability, and driver-vendor alignment into a unified leadership mandate. The HL drives volume expansion, strengthens EMPHORIA's competitive positioning, and ensures sustainable value creation in a highly fragmented, driver-sensitive, low-margin logistics market.
Key Objectives
- Deliver profitable and scalable growth through strategic client acquisition and long-term partnerships.
- Maximize revenue per vehicle/day while optimizing cost/km and trip yields to sustain margins.
- Establish a disciplined, reliable, and technology-driven operations framework.
- Build and strengthen a driver-owner-vendor ecosystem to stabilize supply capacity.
- Implement real-time MIS dashboards and Command Net integration for absolute operational visibility.
- Institutionalize accountability, predictability, and financial control across the logistics organization.
Roles & Responsibilities
A. Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Formulate and execute a 5-year strategic growth roadmap for Odisha's logistics portfolio.
- Identify, acquire, and secure high-volume clients across EPC, mining, steel, power, ports, and industrial clusters.
- Lead freight pricing negotiations, SLA design, and credit term finalization to secure long-term revenue commitments.
- Build strategic partnerships with steel plants, EPC contractors, fleet aggregators, and logistics consortiums.
- Expand EMPHORIA's service portfolio into emerging opportunities such as port handling, heavy-haul cargo, express distribution, and value-added services.
- Conduct quarterly client relationship reviews to secure repeat orders and pre-empt churn.
B. Strategic Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Own the statewide P&L, balancing growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Approve daily dispatch plans ensuring 98% planned vs achieved trips across all clusters.
- Drive SLA reliability 98% by enforcing standardized SOPs for trip execution, breakdown recovery, escalation workflows, and real-time driver management.
Deploy predictive operational models using Command RecommendedCommandNet dashboards for live monitoring of:
Vehicle utilization
- Idle time deviations
- Trip cancellations and delays
Real-time revenue per vehicle
Lead business continuity planning to mitigate disruptions from driver attrition, vehicle breakdowns, gate pass delays, or client-side operational challenges.
C. Ecosystem & Stakeholder Management
- Build a trust-driven, stable driver-owner ecosystem to reduce attrition and ensure supply readiness.
- Strengthen relationships with local vendors, vehicle financiers, driver agencies, and regional authorities.
- Mediate high-impact escalations involving drivers, vehicle owners, clients, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure zero operational downtime.
Partner with Compliance Manager to design driver loyalty, retention, and welfare programs, including:
Medical & accidental insurance
- Emergency cash advances
- Festival bonuses & incentives
- Performance-linked recognition models
D. Financial Leadership & Governance
- Drive daily, vehicle-level profitability reviews alongside the Logistics Financial Executive for complete financial visibility.
- Approve client pricing strategies, invoice structures, and credit approvals while safeguarding EMPHORIA's working capital cycle.
- Ensure diesel variance 3% through integrated GPS-linked IoT fuel audits and fleet analytics.
- Oversee automation of driver payouts, vendor settlements, penalties, and incentives — seamlessly integrated with CommandNet dashboards.
- Align volume growth with healthy EBITDA margins 12% while maintaining cash flow discipline.
E. Leadership & People Development
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing leadership team across operations, business development, finance, and planning.
- Establish monthly accountability reviews with Manager-Operations, Compliance Manager, Cluster Operational Managers, LFE, and Business Development Lead.
- Define role-based KPIs and performance-linked rewards to drive ownership at every level.
- Conduct quarterly leadership development workshops focused on capability-building, operational discipline, and cross-functional alignment.
