The Patient Counselor plays a pivotal role in providing emotional support, guidance, and assistance to patients and their families throughout their hospital journey. This position focuses on addressing the psychosocial needs of patients, helping them cope with medical challenges, and facilitating communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers. The Patient Counselor ensures patients feel heard, understood, and supported during their healthcare experience.

Key Responsibilities:

- **Emotional Support**:

- Offer empathetic listening and emotional support to patients and their families facing medical challenges, diagnoses, and treatment decisions.
- Provide counseling and guidance to help patients cope with anxiety, stress, grief, and other emotional responses related to their healthcare journey.
- Assist patients in identifying and utilizing healthy coping mechanisms and support networks.
- **Patient Education**:

- Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatment options, procedures, and potential outcomes in clear and understandable terms.
- Provide information on available support services, resources, and community organizations that can assist patients in managing their healthcare needs.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure patients have access to accurate and relevant information to make informed decisions about their care.
- **Communication Facilitation**:

- Act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers to facilitate effective communication and understanding.
- Advocate for patients' needs and preferences within the healthcare team, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
- Assist with interpreting medical terminology and explaining healthcare procedures to patients and families.

Eligiblity Criteria:

- Bachelor's Degree
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse patient populations.
- Empathetic and compassionate approach to supporting patients and families during challenging times.
- Strong problem-solving and crisis intervention skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
