Debt Collection Specialist Position Overview

A collection manager will oversee the debt collection process within an organization, ensuring timely payment of outstanding debts from customers or clients. The Debt Collector will work closely with the Accounting Department and collection agents to implement effective strategies for collecting overdue payments.

Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Develop and implement efficient plans for collecting outstanding debts.
  • Monitor accounts to identify overdue payments and determine appropriate actions to resolve issues promptly.
  • Communicate with customers to negotiate payment arrangements and resolve disputes in a professional manner.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to resolve billing and payment-related inquiries efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of all collection activities, including customer interactions and payment agreements.
  • Analyze delinquent accounts and prepare reports on the overall status of collections to inform business decisions.
  • Implement and enforce credit policies and procedures to minimize late payments or non-payment.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel or external collection agencies as needed to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; a master's degree may be preferred for advanced roles.
  • Proven experience in debt collection management, preferably in a supervisory or managerial position.
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles and practices, particularly as they relate to debt collection and credit management.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess data and trends to develop effective collection strategies.
  • Familiarity with debt collection software and tools for managing accounts receivable.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle challenging situations professionally and ethically.
