Job Description

As a Data Governance Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, security, and accessibility of our organization's data assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage Microsoft Purview accounts, collections, and access controls to maintain a secure data environment.
  • Integrate Purview with various data sources, including Azure Data Lake, Synapse, SQL DB, Power BI, and Snowflake, to ensure seamless data flow.
  • Schedule and monitor metadata scanning and classification jobs to maintain data quality.
  • Design and implement collection hierarchies aligned with data ownership to facilitate efficient data management.
  • Develop metadata ingestion workflows for technical, business, and operational metadata to enhance data understanding.
  • Enrich data assets with business context by applying descriptions, glossary terms, and tags.
  • Sync metadata across tools using REST APIs, PowerShell, or ADF to maintain consistency.
  • Validate end-to-end lineage for datasets and reports to ensure data integrity.
  • Resolve lineage gaps or failures using mapping corrections or scripts to maintain data accuracy.
  • Perform impact analysis to support downstream data consumers and ensure data usability.
  • Create custom classification rules for sensitive data, including PII, PCI, and PHI, to maintain data confidentiality.
  • Apply and manage Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels and policies to ensure data protection.
  • Integrate with Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) for DLP to maintain data security.
  • Manage business glossary in collaboration with domain owners and stewards to ensure data understanding.
  • Implement approval workflows and term governance to maintain data quality.
  • Conduct audits for glossary and metadata quality and consistency to ensure data reliability.
  • Automate Purview operations using PowerShell, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and REST APIs to streamline data management.
  • Build pipelines for dynamic source registration and scanning to enhance data discovery.
  • Automate tagging, lineage, and glossary term mapping to maintain data consistency.
  • Enable operational insights using Power BI, Synapse Link, Azure Monitor, and governance APIs to inform data-driven decision-making.
