The Steel Plant Project Engineering Lead will play a pivotal role in overseeing all engineering activities, from conceptualization to commissioning. This requires extensive experience in heavy industrial projects, particularly in the steel sector, with a strong focus on project execution, technical excellence, and safety.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing the overall engineering strategy for the project, aligning with project goals, schedule, and budget.
  • Leading the conceptual design, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering phases.
  • Selecting and managing EPC contractors, consultants, and vendors.
  • Ensuring integration of all engineering disciplines to achieve a cohesive and optimized plant design.
  • Verifying that engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and calculations comply with relevant national and international codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Overseeing review and approval process for all engineering deliverables.
  • Implementing robust quality control procedures for engineering outputs.
  • Driving value engineering initiatives to optimize design, reduce costs, and improve plant performance.
  • Managing engineering schedule and budget, identifying potential deviations, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Coordinating with procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Resolving technical issues and challenges during project phases.
  • Leading technical discussions and negotiations with suppliers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

Educational Qualifications & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Metallurgical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering preferred).
  • Masters degree in engineering or business administration (MBA) is a plus.

Total Years of Experience

  • Minimum 20-25 years progressive experience in engineering roles within heavy industrial projects.
  • At least 5-10 years leadership/head of engineering capacity for steel plant projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in full lifecycle of greenfield or significant brownfield steel plant projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of various steelmaking and associated auxiliary systems.
  • Proven experience managing large multi-disciplinary engineering teams and external consultants.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and quality control.
  • Experience with relevant engineering software and tools.
