Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join our team.

  • Meet commitments and provide excellent customer service at all times with internal and external clients.

  • Provide status reports that are detailed to tasks and difficulties encountered - enable managers to initiate escalation if necessary and assess areas where changes or additional support may be warranted.

  • Escalate issues resulting in customer outage appropriately through management.

  • Assist application groups with design development that meets current and future business requirements:

    • Participate in logical design process of strategic projects and be responsible for the physical design/implementation.

    • Provide specific direction on infrastructure design to support applications.

    • Participate as a member of development support team on projects.

    • Follow and meet project timelines and deadlines.

  • Maintain the physical database:

    • Create physical database objectives following established standards and processes employed by the database team.

    • Enforce database standards and follow up on inconsistencies.

    • Perform routine reviews of databases and systems to ensure acceptable levels of performance.

    • Report problem performance areas and recommendations for improvement.

    • Follow up on recommendations and actively push for implementation as appropriate.

  • Understand and apply database concepts such as database definitions, parameters, database component placement, reorganization, access methods and security definitions.

  • Work with capacity planning, operations, application developers and other teams on database performance and access issues.

  • Provide 24/7 support of production database environments.

  • Actively manage backups along with other administrators to ensure processes are successful and we can recover as a result.

  • If necessary, participate in recovery of databases and assist with disaster recovery testing and documentation.
