Microbiologist Job Description

As a skilled Microbiologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality and safety of our products by performing various microbiological analyses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing environmental monitoring of classified areas to ensure aseptic conditions.
  • Sampling and testing purified water and raw water.
  • Conducting microbial limit tests, BET, sterility testing, etc., on water, APIs, and KSMs.
  • Cleaning validation through swab/rinse microbiological analysis.
  • Microbiological validation studies, including filter integrity testing and media fills for aseptic processes.
  • Qualifying controlled areas, equipment, and utilities (HVAC, water systems, compressed air).
  • Preparing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and reports.
  • Maintaining accurate microbiological records as per GMP and data integrity requirements.
  • Supporting regulatory inspections and customer audits and responding to microbiology-related queries.
  • Participating in out-of-specification (OOS) or out-of-trend (OOT) investigations related to microbial results.
  • Conducting root cause analysis and proposing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Performing microbiological risk assessments of processes and systems.
  • Maintaining microbial culture collection and reference strains.
  • Calibrating and qualifying lab instruments (incubators, autoclaves, laminar airflows, microscopes).
  • Properly handling, disposing, and practicing biosafety with microbial cultures.
  • Training production and quality staff on microbiological hygiene and aseptic practices.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of contamination control strategies.
  • Staying updated with pharmacopeia changes, ICH guidelines, and regulatory expectations.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience in microbiological laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of GMP and data integrity principles.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
