Job Title: Senior Literature Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Literature Specialist to join our team. This role will be based in our Country Office and will report directly to the National Program Coordinator.

The primary focus of this position will be on developing high-quality children's literature for local languages, requiring regular travel and collaboration with authors, illustrators, publishers, printers, and officials.

  • Organize and facilitate workshops for writers and illustrators to produce new children's books annually.
  • Edit and finalize manuscripts, translating them into English as needed.
  • Coordinate with translators, writers, illustrators, designers, and other stakeholders to produce the books.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of book printing and publishing technical aspects, providing expert advice on bidding and printing processes.
  • Cultivate a thorough knowledge of Room to Read's Literacy program design.
  • Establish criteria for engaging, relevant, and culturally appropriate reading material for primary school grades.
  • Conduct gap analyses to determine available reading materials and identify gaps with respect to ideal book lists.
  • Oversee the distribution of reading materials to project areas.
  • Manage inventory and maintain regular reporting documents related to materials development and procurement.
  • Foster close collaboration with Operations, Administration, Finance, and HR teams to ensure seamless implementation of program activities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in literature/language/education/social sciences or equivalent.
  • Master's in literature/language/education/social sciences or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in developing quality children's educational/learning materials.
  • Understanding of supplementary materials' impact on reading skills and habits.
  • Experience in developing teaching learning materials (TLM) and instruction materials.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
