Job Summary

Regional Manager in Banking Operations will oversee and manage operations across multiple regions, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and high standards of service delivery. This role requires strategic leadership, operational expertise, and the ability to drive continuous improvement while managing a diverse team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the bank's overall objectives and drive regional performance.
  • Challenge the status quo, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manage change effectively, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation and training on new systems, processes, policies, procedures, and controls

Business

  • Minimize operational risks and losses by proactively identifying risks and concerns, and escalating them to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to mitigate risks and resolve issues promptly, establishing effective controls.
  • Prioritize and manage workload peaks and month ends, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to address and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Ensure proficiency in key operational processes across multiple desks and regions, providing support and solutions to capacity constraints.

Processes

  • Ensure Teams are adhering to internal/external policies and bring out exceptions/gaps in a timely manner and at appropriate level to remediate and address root causes as appropriate.
  • Comply with regulatory guidelines, country policies, and internal processes applicable to Banking Operations
  • Ensure friendly, fast, and accurate services to both internal and external customers.
  • Carry out process improvement projects to improve ease of doing business and enhance customer experience.
  • Liaise with Group, IT and business teams to ensure system application and IT infrastructure support.
  • Ensure adequate documentation and training on all new systems, processes, policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Build an agile organizational structure, enabling timely adaptation to changing market conditions.

People & Talent

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team to enhance overall performance and innovation.
  • Identify skill gaps and provide targeted training and development opportunities to ensure the team remains competent and competitive.
  • Promote a positive work environment that aligns with the organization's values and culture.
  • Implement effective talent management strategies to attract, retain, and develop top talent within the team.

Risk Management

  • Focus on Self Identificaiton of Issues and reportings ( iKTM, M7 etc) on timely basis without any delay
  • Ensure a no surprises culture – no failed audits, no repeat findings, nil high-risk ratings.
  • Understand market practices, local regulations, group and business policies, business standard procedures, and best practices.
  • Establish a performance culture around risk management using root cause analysis and corrective action planning as key elements of operational risk management.

Governance

  • Drive implementation of the Digital Operating Model to help maximize operational efficiency and reduce dependency on manual efforts.
  • Ensure systems and process documents are kept up to date and reviewed periodically as required.
  • Actively provide inputs for process improvements and drive automation and implementation of desired end-state processes.
  • Drive cost-effectiveness in operations and ensure maintenance of best practices.
  • Effectively implement the Operational Risk Framework.
  • Establish OR standards/controls aligned to the Process Universe.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Lead to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles.
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate, and resolve risk, conduct, and compliance matters.

Key stakeholders

  • Products, Branches, Risk , GBS, CIB Ops, Compliance, Collections
  • RBI, NPCI, SEBI and Law Enforcement Agencies, Vendors ( Courier, Cash Vendors, Manpower Supplier, Cheque Book , Valuation, Legal, Card Plastic ,Stationary etc)

Other Responsibilities

  • Focus on process improvement through automation, STP and digitization or cost reduction solutions
  • Ensure Banks strategic Projects and Initiatives are completed in time
