Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation:
- Assist chefs and cooks with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, cutting, chopping, and measuring ingredients.
- Prepare and portion simple food items, salads, or desserts as instructed.
- Properly store and label food ingredients and leftovers to prevent spoilage
Cleaning and Sanitation:
- Wash, clean, and sanitize all dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and cooking equipment.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all food preparation areas, counters, stovetops, ovens, and storage areas.
- Perform routine and deep cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping floors, and cleaning trash containers.
Kitchen Operations Support:
- Assist with the unloading of food and supply deliveries and ensure proper storage (e.g., in storerooms, refrigerators, or freezers).
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to the supervisor or manager.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and procedures.
Teamwork:
- Communicate effectively with the rest of the kitchen team (chefs, cooks, dishwashers) to ensure timely and efficient service.
- Report any damaged, faulty, or non-working equipment to a supervisor immediately.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is often preferred, but not always required.
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures
- Physical Ability: Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
- Skills & Attributes:
Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Flexibility to work various shifts, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
