Job Description
Eptura is seeking a highly skilled hands on
Technical Lead - Full-Stack Java Engineer
to guide a team building and maintaining a large, business-critical legacy application. You'll balance people leadership (coaching, planning and delivery management) with technical leadership (architecture, code quality, troubleshooting)
Responsibilities
- Lead the team: Manage and mentor software developers through 1:1s, career growth, feedback, and performance guidance; foster a healthy engineering culture.
- Own delivery with Agile & Jira: Assist Scrum Masters with sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retros; ensure accurate Jira workflows, forecasting, and on-time delivery.
- Set technical direction: Shape designs and implementation plans; review code for quality, security, scalability, and maintainability; uphold engineering standards.
- Build hands-on: Contribute production code (expect ~30–50% coding time) across Java/Spring/Spring MVC services, SQL, and front-end (React/jQuery) where needed.
- Advance our stack: Evolve APIs (REST/GraphQL), optimize SQL queries, and improve testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Database Excellence - Implement and refine SQL-based queries while working with relational databases such as MSSQL and Oracle (preferred).
- Navigate legacy with confidence: Decompose complex modules, reduce tech debt safely, and document learning paths so the team can move fast without breaking things.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Product, Design, QA, and Customer Support to ship high-quality features and resolve issues quickly.
- Champion reliability: Drive incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation; ensure non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, security) are met.
- Quality Assurance: Uphold best practices for performance, security, scalability, and overall code quality.
About You
- Proven experience managing software developers (team lead/engineering lead/manager), including coaching, feedback, and delivery accountability.
- Expert at running Scrum with Jira (workflows, boards, reporting, metrics).
- Strong Java with Spring and Spring Boot skills. Experience designing and maintaining robust services and integrations.
- Proficiency with React and jQuery
- Experience with GraphQl (schema design, resolvers) and REST best practices.
- Strong SQL skills (query design, optimization); experience with at least one major RDBMS.
- Have a legacy application mindset: Ability to lead execution while learning a complex product domain Use a methodical approach to refactoring and incremental modernization.
- Quality discipline: Unit/integration testing, code reviews, secure coding, and CI/CD familiarity.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):
Experience with
Spring MVC
or
Spring Boot
.
- Knowledge of jQuery for enhanced front-end development.
- Working with MSSQL and Oracle databases.
- Familiarity with Agile workflows, version control tools like Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Modernization projects (strangler patterns, modularization, monolith maintenance).
