Job Description – Operations Head (Manufacturing)

Role Overview

The Operations Head will be responsible for the end-to-end functioning of both manufacturing units.

This includes production planning, floor supervision, manpower management, quality control, line efficiency, inventory oversight, and ensuring daily targets are achieved smoothly.

The ideal candidate should come from the luggage/bag manufacturing industry or from a strong industrial engineering/production background.

Key Responsibilities1. Production & Planning

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production plans.
  • Maintain shift targets, output tracking, and timely completion of orders.
  • Implement line balancing, SAM-based planning, and efficiency improvements.
  • Manage model changeovers and ensure minimum downtime.

2. Floor Management

  • Supervise store, cutting, stitching, assembly, QC, packing, and dispatch.
  • Ensure operators and helpers work productively with discipline.
  • Resolve bottlenecks and labour issues instantly.
  • Monitor machine utilization and coordinate maintenance schedules.

3. Quality Control

  • Ensure in-line and final QC standards are maintained.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for defects.
  • Maintain zero-complaint policy with buyers.

4. Manpower & Labour Handling

  • Manage attendance, shift discipline, and labour allocation.
  • Coordinate with HR for hiring, training, and appraisals.
  • Build a positive, efficient work culture on the floor.

5. Stores & Inventory Oversight

  • Ensure timely availability of raw materials and trims.
  • Coordinate with purchase and store teams for shortages.
  • Track RM consumption, wastage, and over-issue control.

6. Process Improvement

  • Implement lean, 5S, and IE systems.
  • Reduce changeover time, material movement, and WIP.
  • Improve operator efficiency, output, and cost.

7. Reporting & Documentation

  • Share daily production reports and efficiency sheets.
  • Maintain registers for output, attendance, QC, and breakdown logs.
  • Coordinate with management for weekly review meetings.

RequirementsExperience

  • 5–12 years in manufacturing (bags/luggage preferred).
  • Must have handled 80–200 labour or multiple production lines.

Skills

  • Strong production knowledge (SAM, efficiency, line balancing).
  • Excellent communication and labour-handling abilities.
  • Problem-solving mindset and floor-leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets for reporting.

Education

  • Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Production/Industrial Engineering OR
  • Relevant experience in luggage/bag manufacturing.

Salary Range

₹40,000 to ₹65,000 per month

(Higher for exceptional candidates with luggage experience.)
