Job Summary
The Logistics Manager will be responsible for leading and optimizing all logistics operations while driving business development initiatives to enhance the companys market presence and profitability. This role requires a strong balance of strategic planning and operational execution — ensuring efficient transportation, distribution, and customer satisfaction. The incumbent will manage fleet performance, ensure cost control, regulatory compliance, and develop client relationships that support long-term business growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Strategic Planning
- Identify and cultivate new business opportunities to expand market presence and revenue streams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders to drive sustainable business growth.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to understand industry trends, customer needs, and emerging opportunities.
- Develop and implement business strategies aligned with organizational goals and profitability targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver customized logistics solutions for clients.
- Represent the company at client meetings, negotiations, and industry events.
2. Logistics Operations & Fleet Management
- Oversee end-to-end logistics operations including transportation, warehousing, and distribution at the branch or regional level.
- Supervise daily vehicle deployment, trip scheduling, and route optimization to ensure efficient fleet utilization.
- Monitor vehicle loading/unloading times, turnaround efficiency, and implement process improvements to reduce operational delays.
- Ensure real-time GPS tracking of all vehicles, addressing route deviations or performance issues promptly.
- Maintain fuel and urea consumption records, analyzing trends for cost optimization.
- Generate and present daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports to senior management.
3. Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure timely collection, verification, and reconciliation of all logistics documentation including Lorry Receipts (LRs) and Proof of Delivery (POD).
- Investigate discrepancies, shortages, or damages and coordinate claims or deductions accordingly.
- Ensure adherence to all logistics and transport regulations including permits, insurance, and vehicle fitness certifications.
- Conduct regular compliance and safety audits to maintain adherence to legal, environmental, and company standards.
4. Financial Oversight & Cost Management
- Track outstanding receivables and ensure timely collections through effective client coordination.
- Oversee branch-level cash flow management, including driver advances, operational expenses, and vendor payments.
- Partner with the finance team for expense reconciliation, budget control, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, and third-party logistics service providers for cost efficiency.
5. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team across logistics and business development functions.
- Define departmental KPIs, monitor team performance, and ensure accountability and productivity.
- Foster a culture of safety, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Implement driver training programs focused on safety, fuel efficiency, and documentation accuracy.
- Monitor driver behavior through telematics and enforce disciplinary or incentive measures as appropriate.
6. Risk Management & Contingency Planning
- Develop and execute contingency plans for vehicle breakdowns, route diversions, and other operational disruptions.
- Identify risks related to delivery delays, pilferage, and operational inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain an escalation matrix for issue resolution and ensure proactive communication with stakeholders during disruptions.
7. Client & Vendor Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring smooth communication and timely delivery execution.
- Address client concerns regarding damages, delays, or discrepancies, ensuring quick resolution and corrective action.
- Build long-term partnerships with vendors and service providers to strengthen the supply chain ecosystem.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in logistics, supply chain management, and business development.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multi-location logistics operations.
- Proficiency in logistics management systems, GPS tracking, ERP tools, and MS Excel.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Analytical and data-driven approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Financial acumen for cost control, budgeting, and receivable management.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- 8–12 years of experience in logistics operations and/or business development, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.
- Demonstrated success in optimizing logistics operations and driving business growth.
- Strong knowledge of transport regulations, labor laws, safety standards, and vendor management.
