Roles & Responsibilities

As a Supervisor of Conventional Machining, the individual will oversee and manage the operations of the machine shop, ensuring efficient production of high-quality metal components through conventional machining processes. The individual will lead a team of machinists, set production schedules, and maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Coordinate to develop a comprehensive plan for machining of castings based on the machine load plan and arrange necessary tools required for rough machining, ensuring availability and proper functioning.
- Review and analyze method sheets, product drawings, work drawings, and related specifications for each order to be processed and have any errors or inconsistencies resolved.
- Ensure adequate setup for each operation scheduled to run on lathes, milling machines, and grinding machines.
- Support operators in understanding drawings, ensure compliance with size specifications and verify the adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for rough machining operations and conduct primary visual inspections of machined parts using manual tools such as vernier calipers, depth gauges, and micrometers.
- Select and assign drills, reamers, cutters, threading tools, form tools, fixtures, spacers, holders, cams, bushings, collets, (tooling) necessary to setup and perform each operation as called for on the method sheet.
- Assist in designing complicated tooling or modify and improve existing tooling when standard tooling does not exist considering the dimension requirements, material, shrinkage, formability, machinability, machining rates, etc.
- Prepare daily production sheets for each machine in the machine shop.
- Monitor and ensure that machining jobs are completed within planned cycle times as per the machining plan
- Review all first piece runs at the machine to assure product conformance and to prove the accuracy and efficiency of the method.
- Make any necessary changes to improve tool life and achieve the most economical cycle time.
- Perform dimensional corrections, addressing any measurement or offset discrepancies and ensure that all process requirements for machining are fulfilled to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Maintain accurate records of rough machining processes, inspections, and training activities.
- Provide training to new operators on operating non-CNC machines.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancement in non-CNC machining operations. Make timely coordination with maintenance and quality for smooth operation.
- Follow and ensure adherence to all prescribed safety procedures and wear PPE as prescribed in Hazard Assessment document for the job.

Education and Certifications:

- Bachelor/Diploma of engineering in Mechanical/Production/Automobile, or a related field.

**Experience**:

- 2-5 years of experience in handling conventional machining equipment such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills to effectively supervise and motivate a team.
- In-depth knowledge of machining processes, techniques, and tooling.

Technical / Functional Expertise & other competencies:

- Excellent problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot machining issues and implement solutions.
- Understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with cross-functional teams and convey instructions clearly.
- Attention to detail to ensure precision and accuracy in machining operations.
- Time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet production deadlines.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with quality management systems and quality assurance processes.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
