Position: Zonal Credit Manager - SME
Reporting to: National Credit Manager - SME
Direct Reports: Regional Credit Managers
No of Direct Reports: 2 - 6
Key Purpose of the Job :
The role holder is responsible for managing the SME credit approval process for the zone. The role holder is also responsible for ensuring portfolio quality and delinquencies in the zone.
Education Qualification / Skill sets required :
- Commerce Graduate + CA / Post Graduate in Finance
- Must have prior experience of 10+ years, working in Home Loans / LAP / Term Loans
- Must have headed credit evaluation team for a retail banking product
- Must possess good knowledge and understanding of credit and risk
Key Responsibilities :
1. Ensure maintenance of a high quality portfolio in the zone
2. Lead and manage the credit team at the zone
3. Underwrite proposals and make decisions on loan approval and disbursement within
empowerment and escalate to National Credit Manager, as appropriate
Indicative Tasks :
1. Ensure maintenance of a high quality portfolio in the zone
Encourage branches to conduct a quality credit appraisal, through personal understanding of customer, supplemented by documentation provided
Analyze trends in SME industry
Analyze present portfolio trend and make recommendations on changes to norms, as appropriate
Analyze and devise strategies to avoid Early Defaulters (EDs) and Non Starters (NS)
Recommend revision in norms considering changes in the market
Analyze and recommend changes in positive and negative customer segments, as appropriate
Participate in audit and ensure adherence of both Chola and other compliance norms
Implement changes that arise on account of audit results / non-compliance
Devise strategies and implement process improvements to minimize turnaround time
Analyze the MIS so as to develop measures to prevent potential bad debt
Monitor NPAs and effectively control delinquency of portfolio in the zone
Track statutory requirements in the market and make recommendations to the National Credit Manager to revise credit norms
2. Lead and manage the credit team at the zone
Communicate empowerment limits effectively to the credit team
-Develop plans in terms of empowerment and staffing for the branch credit teams
Analyze the performance of the credit teams at various branches
Coach and guide RCMs on credit norms, mitigants, risks and deviation cases
Guide the team to detect risk, alarming customer segments, potential delinquencies, etc.
Advise and resolve issues / deviations appropriately
Ensure that adequate training is provided to the credit & sales teams at all branches in the region, both functional and procedural
Put in place a monitoring and review mechanism / process to track productivity, turn around time, etc.
Identify high performers and build capabilities for future roles, promotions, etc.
Oversee the hiring of CPAs and recommend recruitment of BCM/ACM, in case of large volumes
3. Underwrite proposals and make decisions on loan approval and disbursement within empowerment and escalate to National Credit Manager, as appropriate
Analyze the Credit Appraisal Memo based on norms, actuals, mitigants and deviations
Check and ensure that the end use of financing and category of customer adheres to company norms
Scrutinize the customer file for any missing information / documents and raise queries, as appropriate
Ensure appropriate categorization of customer and correct eligibility
Review and scrutinize the Technical, Legal and FI reports
Review and scrutinize other aspects including the flow of property, mixed-usage, etc.
Ensure a thorough understanding of all particulars in Balance Transfer cases
Take a final decision on disbursement with regard to all cases within empowerment
Escalate cases falling above empowerment for further scrutiny.
