Job Title: CBM Well Planning Lead

The CBM Well Planning Lead role is critical to ensure technical integrity, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance for coalbed methane wells.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Well Planning & Design:
    • Lead well planning activities for CBM wells, including location selection support.
    • Prepare well designs aligned with reservoir models.
    • Develop detailed Basis of Design (BoD), risk registers, and contingency plans.
    • Design fit-for-purpose completions for CBM production.
  • Engineering & Cost Control:
    • Generate drilling and completion AFEs and monitor actual vs. budget.
    • Assist in developing Scopes of Work and technical specifications for Drilling & Well Completion equipment.
    • Select equipment and materials in collaboration with procurement vendors.
    • Evaluate new CBM-relevant technologies.
    • Evaluate contractor's performance to improve their services.
  • Operational Support:
    • Provide real-time technical support during drilling, casing, cementing, and completions.
    • Conduct post-well reviews and implement lessons learned.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination:
    • Work closely with subsurface teams for well targeting and zonal optimization.
    • Coordinate with HSE, land access, and surface facility teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure all well designs comply with regulations.
    • Prepare necessary documentation for permits and approvals.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead a team of well engineers and mentor junior staff.
    • Manage interfaces with consultants, contractors, and service providers.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Petroleum Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Over 10 years of upstream oil & gas experience, with 3+ years specifically in CBM operations.
  • Proven experience in well design and engineering for low-pressure, unconventional gas wells.
