Telecommunications Sales Engineer

Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Sales Engineer to join our team as an Architectural Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for driving business outcomes within assigned territories or accounts by collaborating with account teams to identify and engage customers at all levels.
Responsibilities:- Accountable Business Outcomes: You will be accountable for delivering defined business outcomes within your assigned territory or accounts.
- Customer Engagement: Assist the account teams in identifying, qualifying, and engaging customers at all levels, both technically and commercially.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Coordinate and collaborate with various departments, including product management and engineering, to influence feature and function roadmaps for Ciena's packet optical portfolio.
- Customer Advocacy: Act as a customer advocate to internal teams and a trusted advisor to customers.
- Product Assessment: Assist in assessing potential product features and provide input on prioritization.
- Presentation and Communication: Be capable of presenting to large audiences on subject matter expertise.
- Customer Applications: Influence and capture customer applications to ensure product fit with Ciena's portfolio.
- Portfolio Evolution: Understand the evolution of Ciena's product portfolio and articulate plans to customers at a senior level.
- Commercial Acumen: Demonstrate strong business development and commercial acumen to partner and support regional strategies in adjacent areas and evolving packet optical networking engagement.
- Market Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of the telecommunications market, including next-generation DWDM technologies, DCI, Metro, regional, and national long-distance network design.
- Mentorship: Mentor junior members of the team.
- Advanced Architecture Discussions: Drive advanced architecture discussions incorporating packet optical, OTN switched Network Management, and automation.
- Customer Requests: Manage customer requests and coordinate activities.
- Quotes and Forecasts: Review quotes, RFXs, and forecasts.
- Conceptual Technology Presentations: Ability to present conceptual technology, including control plane-based Layer-1, Layer-0 networks, transport network automation, data center interconnects, and designs.
- Market Segments: Ability to engage different market segments, including data centers, utilities, Tier 1/2/3 operators, wholesale operators, and enterprise.
- Network Management: Telecommunication networks, network management, and SDN (domain controllers) preferably with knowledge of network automation solutions.
- Liaison with Engineering: Ability to liaise with Ciena engineering personnel to capture new feature requirements, articulate key feature requirements, and position the Ciena solution to meet those needs.
- Influence and Trust: Relationship skills and ability to inspire trust and influence others, including senior executives.
- Expert Knowledge: Expert-level knowledge of control plane-based Layer-1, Layer-0 networks, transport network automation, data center interconnects.
- RFPs and Quotations: Ability to drive RFPs and communicate technical quotations accurately.
- Competitive Environment: Understanding of the competitive sales environment.
- Ciena's Strategic Pillars: Understanding and commitment to Ciena's strategic pillars and direction.
- Professionalism: Professionalism in attitude, conduct, and appearance.
- Telecommunication Architecture: Good understanding of current telecommunication architecture approaches and capacity to lead technical discussions across multiple network areas.
- Technical Degree: Technical degree; B.E./B.Tech.
- Architecting Complex Networks: Expert in architecting complex Layer-0, Layer-1, DCI, Metro, and regional/long-distance transport networks.
- Layer-2 and Layer-3 Technologies: Good understanding of Layer-2 and Layer-3 technologies.
- Telecommunication Industry Experience: 10+ years of telecommunication industry experience.
- Prior Experience: Prior hands-on experience in planning, design, or deployment of large L0/L1 control plane networks is a definite plus.
- Solid Proven Experience: Solid proven experience in the communication industry, although must be commercially minded, the candidate will have a hands-on background with sales experience to add to the technical capabilities.
- Decision-Making and Problem-Solving: Demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent Presentation and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communications skills.
- Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English), both technical and non-technical.
$120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
