Senior Sales Engineer

Responsibilities
- Drive business outcomes within assigned territories or accounts.
- Collaborate with account teams to identify, qualify, and engage customers at all levels.
- Coordinate with product management, engineering, and other departments to influence feature and function roadmaps.
- Act as a customer advocate and trusted advisor.
- Assist in assessing potential product features and providing input on prioritization.
- Present to large audiences on subject matter expertise.
- Influence and capture customer applications to ensure product fit with Ciena's portfolio.
- Understand and articulate Ciena's product portfolio evolution to customers at a senior level.
- Develop strong business development and commercial acumen to support regional strategy.
General Activities
- Excellent knowledge of Telecommunications market – next generation DWDM technologies, DCI, Metro, regional and national long distance network design and
- Mentor junior team members.
- Drive advanced architecture discussions incorporating packet optical, OTN switched Network Management and automation.
- Manage customer requests and coordinate activities.
- Review quotes, RFX's, and forecasts.
- Present conceptual technology including control plane based Layer-1, layer-0 networks, transport network automation, data center interconnects, and designs.
Areas of Impact
- Engage different market segments including Datacenter, utilities, Tier 1/2/3 Operators, wholesale operator, and enterprise.
- Telecommunication networks, Network management, & SDN (domain controllers) preferably with knowledge of network automation solutions.
- Liaise with Ciena engineering personnel to capture new feature requirements and position the Ciena solution.
- Relationship skills and ability to inspire trust and influence others, including senior Execs.
- Expert level knowledge of control plane based Layer-1, layer-0 networks, transport network automation, data center interconnects.
- Drive RFP's and communicate technical quotations accurately.
- Understanding of competitive sales environment.
- Understanding and commitment to Ciena's Strategic pillars and direction.
- Professionalism in attitude, conduct, and appearance.
- Good understanding of current telecommunication architecture approaches and lead technical discussions across multiple network areas.
Experience
- Technical Degree; B.E./B.Tech.
- Expert in architecting complex Layer-0, layer-1, DCI, Metro, and regional/long distance transport Networks.
- Good understanding of Layer-2, Layer-3 technologies.
- 10+ years telecommunication industry experience.
- Prior hands-on experience in planning, design, or deployment of large L0/L1 control plane networks is a plus.
- Solid proven experience in the communication industry with commercial acumen and hands-on sales experience.
- Demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communications skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English), both technical and non-technical.
