Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute business strategies to drive revenue growth and market expansion within assigned territories or accounts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, qualify, and engage customers at all levels, both technically and commercially.
  • Work closely with product management, engineering, and other departments to influence feature and function roadmaps for Ciena's packet optical portfolio, ensuring alignment with customer needs and market trends.
  • Serve as a customer advocate, providing trusted guidance and support to internal teams and customers alike.
  • Assist in assessing potential product features, providing input on prioritization and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Present complex technical information to large audiences, effectively communicating the value proposition of Ciena's solutions.
  • Influence and capture customer applications to ensure product fit within Ciena's portfolio, driving revenue growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Stay up-to-date on the evolution of Ciena's product portfolio, articulating plans and strategies to customers at a senior level, driving business outcomes and growth.
  • Develop and maintain strong business development and commercial acumen, partnering with regional teams to drive strategy and growth in adjacent areas and evolving the packet optical networking portfolio engagement.

General Activities

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the telecommunications market, including next-generation DWDM technologies, DCI, metro, regional, and national long-distance network design.
  • Mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support to ensure their growth and development.
  • Drive advanced architecture discussions, incorporating packet optical, OTN switched network management, and automation.
  • Manage customer requests, coordinating activities to ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • Review quotes, RFXs, and forecasts, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Present conceptual technology, including control plane-based Layer-1, Layer-0 networks, transport network automation, data center interconnects, and designs.

Areas of Impact

  • Engage diverse market segments, including data centers, utilities, Tier 1/2/3 operators, wholesale operators, and enterprises.
  • Telecommunications networks, network management, and SDN (domain controllers), preferably with knowledge of network automation solutions.
  • Liaise with Ciena engineering personnel to capture new feature requirements, articulate key feature requirements, and position the Ciena solution to meet customer needs.
  • Maintain strong relationship skills, inspiring trust and influencing others, including senior executives.
  • Demonstrate expert-level knowledge of control plane-based Layer-1, Layer-0 networks, transport network automation, and data center interconnects.
  • Drive RFPs and communicate technical quotations accurately, ensuring alignment with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Understand the competitive sales environment and Ciena's strategic pillars and direction.
  • Exhibit professionalism in attitude, conduct, and appearance.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of current telecommunications architecture approaches and the capacity to lead technical discussions across multiple network areas.

Experience

  • Technical degree, B.E./B.Tech
  • Expert in architecting complex Layer-0, Layer-1, DCI, metro, and regional/long-distance transport networks.
  • Good understanding of Layer-2 and Layer-3 technologies.
  • 10+ years of telecommunications industry experience.
  • Prior hands-on experience in planning, design, or deployment of large L0/L1 control plane networks is a definite plus.
  • Solid proven experience in the communication industry, with commercial acumen and hands-on background in sales to add to technical capabilities.
  • Demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English), both technical and non-technical.
