Senior Design Engineer

This is a key role within our organization that involves the design and development of various mechanisms used in launch vehicles, including separation and jettisoning systems, satellite deployers, electromechanical actuation systems, landing and recovery systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading activities from concept to detailed design, manufacturing, qualification testing, and improvements of innovative and reliable space mechanisms. This will involve conducting initial configuration studies through hand calculations and 1D simulations of sub-systems to check for desired performance and marginalities.

In addition, they will perform design failure mode and criticality analysis to determine possible failure modes and identify mitigation strategies. They will also oversee the creation of high-fidelity parametric 3D CAD models and version control with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate will have a B.tech/M.tech degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Robotics, or Structural Engineering, and a minimum of 3-7 years of experience in the Aerospace or defense industry. They should have exposure to the design of various types of mechanisms, such as linkages, motor and gear drives, cam and follower, lead screw and ball screw, etc.

They should also have 3D CAD modeling experience in CREO parametric and 2D drafting with GD&T. Pneumatic system design experience is an added advantage, as well as exposure to qualification testing, such as thermal, vibration, etc. Exposure to multi-body dynamics and structural analysis tools will be considered an asset but not required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead activities from concept to detailed design, manufacturing, qualification testing, and improvements of innovative and reliable space mechanisms.

  • Detailed design of individual components adhering to engineering design principles and design for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Participate in design reviews with the Design clearance committee and implement the design refinements and modifications suggested.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders for data exchange and effective communication.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • B.tech/M.tech - Mechanical, Aerospace, Robotics, Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 3-7 years of experience in the Aerospace or defense industry
  • Exposure to the design of various types of mechanisms, such as linkages, motor and gear drives, cam and follower, lead screw and ball screw, etc.
