Senior Design Engineer

This role involves leading the design and development of various mechanisms for launch vehicles, including separation and jettisoning systems, satellite deployers, electromechanical actuation systems, landing, and recovery systems.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering group, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing innovative space mechanisms.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all activities from concept to detailed design, manufacturing, qualification testing, and improvements of innovative and reliable space mechanisms needed in space launch vehicles.
  • Conduct initial configuration studies through hand calculations and 1D simulations of sub-systems to check for desired performance and marginalities.
  • Perform design failure mode and criticality analysis to determine possible failure modes and identify mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee the creation of high-fidelity parametric 3D CAD models and version control with cross-functional teams.
  • Detailed design of individual components adhering to engineering design principles and design for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Participate in design reviews with the design clearance committee and implement the design refinements and modifications suggested.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders for data exchange and effective communication.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Mechanical, aerospace, robotics, or structural engineering degree.
  • Minimum 3-7 years of experience in Aerospace or Defense Industry.
  • Exposure to design of various types of mechanisms such as linkages, motor and gear drives, cam and follower, lead screw and ball screw, etc.
  • 3D CAD modeling experience in CREO parametric and 2D drafting with GD&T.
  • Pneumatic system design experience is an added advantage.
  • Exposure to qualification testing such as thermal, vibration, etc is preferred.
  • Exposure to multi-body dynamics and structural analysis tools will be considered an asset but not required.
