Job Overview:

  • Strategic Payroll Leadership
    • Develop and implement scalable payroll models that drive service delivery to diverse nonprofit clients.
    • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for payroll accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and client satisfaction.
    • Lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency, automation, and quality control across the payroll function.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients across various pay cycles.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including wage and hour rules, tax filings, garnishments, and benefits reporting.
    • Manage the implementation, configuration, and optimization of payroll platforms.
    • Maintain robust internal controls and ensure audit readiness for all client payroll processes.
  • Team Development & Client Management
    • Lead a team of payroll professionals and foster a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
    • Partner with client HR and finance teams to ensure seamless integration between payroll and other functions.
    • Deliver proactive insights and reporting to clients on payroll trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field required; Master's preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation strongly recommended.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in payroll operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience managing multi-state payroll operations in a complex or multi-client environment.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit payroll requirements, including grant-funded allocations, union agreements, and labor law compliance.
