Job Title: Climate Adaptation Specialist

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure alignment of national climate frameworks with the Paris Agreement and national development goals by integrating adaptation priorities.
  • Conduct Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors to identify areas requiring adaptation measures.
  • Apply climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.
  • Identify, size, and evaluate adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and map relevant financing sources.
  • Support funding proposal preparation for climate adaptation, targeting international mechanisms such as GCF and GEF.
  • Facilitate inclusive stakeholder consultations to engage government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups in adaptation planning.
  • Align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans.
  • Design Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements.
  • Draft technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Provide policy recommendations to strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Possess an advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Hold 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields.
  • Have demonstrated involvement in developing or updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS), or National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), particularly in developing country contexts.
  • Be proficient in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Have experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections.
  • Demonstrate a strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs is advantageous.
  • Exhibit effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.
