Release Manager Job Description

This is a critical position responsible for overseeing the entire release lifecycle, from planning to deployment.

The ideal candidate will have experience with developing and maintaining comprehensive release plans, working closely with cross-functional teams, identifying and mitigating potential risks, and ensuring compliance with established change control processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and managing release plans that outline timelines, milestones, and dependencies across the release lifecycle.
  • Collaborating with Development, QA, Operations, and Product Management teams to ensure all teams are aligned and prepared for upcoming releases.
  • Identifying, tracking, and mitigating potential risks or issues that could impact release timelines or quality.
  • Ensuring all changes are well-documented, communicated, and approved according to established change control processes.
  • Coordinating deployments in cloud environments (e.g., AWS), ensuring compliance with relevant security and operational policies.
  • Championing continuous integration, delivery, and deployment practices; driving automation to improve release reliability and efficiency.
  • Tracking release progress and providing regular updates, including detailed performance metrics and status reports to stakeholders.
  • Leading the resolution of issues during release phases to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
  • Maintaining and managing the organization's release calendar, ensuring coordination with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Overseeing the merging of validated changes into main code branches, coordinating closely with development and QA teams.
  • P Presenting planned changes in meetings and securing approvals as required across different regions.
  • Assessing readiness before deployment through Go/No-Go meetings with stakeholders.
  • Monitoring post-release performance, coordinating hotfixes if needed, and facilitating Post-Implementation Reviews (PIR).
  • Ensuring all release-related documentation is complete, up-to-date, and meets compliance/audit standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Certification in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect)
  • Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools
  • Strong understanding of release processes in complex, large-scale environments
  • Proven ability to drive process improvements and optimize workflows
