Database Administrator

As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, administration, maintenance and support of relational databases in production, test and development environments that serve online transaction processing and data warehouse applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement enterprise database systems, including support for advanced configurations such as clustering and replication.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of corporate databases.
  • Maintain enterprise and database servers in production, test and development environments.
  • Monitor database performance and tune the database management system as necessary.
  • Collaborate with system administrators during software installation and upgrades.
  • Ensure the availability of databases in accordance with service level agreements.
  • Identify and correct problems in databases promptly and accurately.
  • Review, validate, and deploy database updates during application rollouts to production environments.
  • Provide assistance to developers in tuning database queries under development.
  • Support developers when they need to troubleshoot application issues related to the database backend.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing, configuring and maintaining various relational databases, preferably MySQL, Teradata or Redshift.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of query performance tuning, backup restore, permission architecture and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Proven experience with complex database systems migration, consolidation and integration.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing methodologies and technologies.
  • Proficiency in SQL programming for extensive querying and data manipulation.
  • At least 2 years of programming experience in Java, Perl or Python.
  • Advanced working knowledge and experience with Unix, especially Linux.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment with strong teamwork skills.
  • Strong self-initiative and accountability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of server hardware and network principles is a plus.
  • Experience with Progress management on AWS, Azure and GCP is a plus.
