Senior Database Administrator

As a senior database administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of our database infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced professional to work closely with application teams to ship solutions that integrate seamlessly with our database systems.

  • Analyze and implement best practices for supported datastores, primarily MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for database security, backup, and recovery.
  • Work on the observability of relevant database metrics and ensure we meet our database objectives.
  • Provide expert-level database knowledge to engineering teams through code reviews, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Collaborate with peers to roll out changes to our production environment and help mitigate database-related production incidents.
  • Automate database infrastructure tasks and provide self-service tools to enable engineering success.

Requirements

  • At least 4-8 years of experience managing large-scale MySQL/PostgreSQL environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS/GCP.
  • In-depth knowledge of MySQL and PostgreSQL internals.
  • Experience with load balancing solutions like ProxySQL to distribute traffic efficiently.
  • Knowledge of tools and methods for monitoring database performance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional team work.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with caching mechanisms (Redis/Elasticache).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation (Terraform/Ansible).
  • DevOps practices and CI/CD pipeline expertise.
