Job Title: Senior Electrical Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and experienced electrical design engineer to join our team. As a senior member of our engineering group, you will be responsible for leading the development of complex electrical designs for transmission and distribution substations.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the preparation and review of electrical deliverables, including reports, proposals, presentations, and drawing packages;
  • Develop primary electrical design, layout design, and specification of plant for HV transmission and distribution substations;
  • Coordinate civil design, earthing system analysis, and design for substations;
  • Take personal responsibility for the preparation of detailed engineering documentation and lead the engineering effort for projects;
  • Manage selected projects and project tasks, ensuring timely delivery and quality results;
  • Deliver fully documented designs that meet client objectives and quality standards;
  • Develop technical competency of direct reports and junior team members, ensuring application of relevant international and UK standards;
  • Apply engineering knowledge, techniques, and tools in compliance with international design standards and UK codes and standards;
  • Prepare document and drawing packages for project design submission stages, delivering high-quality designs;
  • Conduct internal reviews and quality checks of engineering drawings and design calculations to ensure compliance with project requirements;
  • Prepare and register relevant documentation and design reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Arcadis and customer requirements;
Qualifications and Experience:
  • At least 8 years of experience in substation plant design, preferably in a consulting environment;
  • Consulting experience in power projects in the UK is preferred;
  • Experience in producing CAD documentation to UK Standards and other international design standards;
  • Experience in processes from concept stage to construction and as-built drawings will be beneficial;
  • Graduate degree in Bachelor of Technology/Science in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university;
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations;
  • Organizational skills and proactive approach in project management;
  • Ability to lead, provide technical solutions to problems, and possess good influencing, motivating, and delegating skills;
  • Actively continue to develop technical knowledge and new emerging technology through regular CPD training;
  • Professional registration with any leading engineering body, such as IET UK, is preferred;
Highly Regarded Skills:
  • Ability to develop cable thermal rating design using CYMCAP and AMTECH for LV systems design;
  • Ability to develop complex earthing and induction models in CDEGS earthing system software;
  • Ability to develop maintenance strategies and procedures, commissioning plans, and documentation;
  • At least 2 years of experience in design and drafting electrical infrastructure in the UK, general familiarity with the electricity supply industry, electricity transmission, and distribution practices;
  • Knowledge of drafting and BIM, how to define BIM outcomes, BIM processes, how to coordinate a BIM project within the 3D environment, and how to apply design to the models produced;
  • Computational design, design algorithms, and automation of data manipulation;
