As a senior electromagnetic design engineer, you will be responsible for the conceptualization and design of high-efficiency switched reluctance motors (SRM), synchronous reluctance motors (SynchREL), permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM)/brushless DC motor (BLDC) designs and developments for electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid vehicle (HEV) applications.

  • Design and develop electric traction motors for low/medium/high-voltage EV applications using FLUX, MAXWELL, MotorCAD, SPEED, Matlab/SIMULINK, and Python programming languages.
  • Conduct thermal 1D analysis using Motor CAD software and perform optimization of machines using advanced simulation techniques that involve automation processes, scripting, and reduction in computation time.
  • Collaborate with electromagnetism design engineers to develop mechanically and thermally feasible designs and participate in testing and validation of electric machines as per relevant standards on dyno and on the vehicle.
  • Benchmark different types of motors for EV and HEV applications through software, allowing for quick comparisons between machine types, machine designs, pole numbers, winding topologies, etc.
  • Develop and prove concept designs with tight timing constraints and work with cross-functional teams to meet project deadlines.
  • Implement performance optimization with Ansys optimization tools and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Develop and implement robust and efficient control strategies used for PMSM, PMBLDC, SynchREL, and other motors.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology and continuously improve knowledge of electric machine design and analysis.

Key Qualifications:

  • Strong background in electrical engineering with emphasis on electromagnetic design and development of electric motors and generators.
  • Hands-on experience with FLUX, MAXWELL, MotorCAD, SPEED, Matlab/SIMULINK, and Python programming languages.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to handle novel and difficult design problems with tight timing constraints.
  • Good understanding of mechanical design of motors and construction/manufacturing methods of electric machines.
  • Knowledge of motor assembly, winding techniques, magnetic materials, electric machine testing methods, and standards.
  • Experience in thermal management of motors and different cooling system designs.
  • Software skills: FLUX, MAXWELL, MotorCAD, SPEED, Matlab/SIMULINK with knowledge of SIMSCAPE, Python, and 3D modeling tool (UG NX preferred).
