Position Overview

The Assistant General Manager, Seafarer Recruitment oversees the organization’s needs for recruitment of seafarers and drive recruitment initiatives and strategies.


Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Institute compliance system and practices to monitor adherence to regulations and define crew recruitment strategies, policies and procedures
  • Monitor performance of team members for compliance with vessel related statutory requirements, Oil majors, regulatory, Wallem, Union and Clients’ requirements
  • Plan recruitment in the region of resources, identify new and efficient sources of manpower and promote engagement strategies to improve crew selection and processing
  • Review manpower forecasting and engage with senior management, crewing operations and other internal stakeholders to identify anticipated employment needs for seafarers and oversee manning agents’ performance
  • Support brand propagation in regional crewing markets and identify public crewing portals for selection of seafarers
  • Manage recruitment teams assigned budget for business unit's operation, marketing and recruitment drives
  • Evaluate business challenges, align quality control of seafarers and formulate strategies to improve candidate selection process
  • Contribute to define Crewing Strategies basis key trends and best practices of crewing market
  • Detect new and emerging risk areas and formulate pro-active steps to address them
  • Identify first trip attrition of seafarers and improve quality control and alignment of seafarers with specific vessel needs, assess the manpower situation and develop plan
  • Participate in succession planning and building team strength
  • Motivate, mentor and engage with team members to drive performance and commitment to business objectives
  • Identify performance gaps of team members and provide support to mitigate them and delivery of Recruitment KPIs
  • Provide directions, goals and targets to ensure achievement of organizational vision, mission, goals and objectives
  • Support global recruitment and cadet/trainee, junior officers and engineers and oversees their career progression


Qualifications & Competencies

  • Degree in Maritime Management or equivalent
  • Seafaring experience as Deck officer/Engineer officer onboard Bulk carriers/Container ships/Car Carriers/Tankers
  • At least 10 years’ experience in Crewing of Dry vessel fleets or Tankers
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of interacting professionally and courteously at all levels with various stakeholders and ship staff
  • Open minded and flexible in prioritization of tasks and willing to learn new tasks
