Logistics & Transportation Management

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the movement of coal via road, rail, barge, or sea.
  • Select and manage transport contractors or fleet operators.
  • Monitor fleet performance and optimize routes for efficiency and cost control.

Supply Chain Coordination

  • Coordinate with mining operations, storage facilities, and customers to ensure a steady and timely flow of coal.
  • Monitor inventory levels at key points (mines, depots, ports).

Scheduling & Planning

  • Develop daily/weekly/monthly transport schedules aligned with production and delivery timelines.
  • Mitigate disruptions (e.g., weather, mechanical failures, strikes).

Cost & Budget Control

  • Track transport costs and negotiate with vendors for best rates.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities across the transport chain.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all coal transport activities comply with local, state, and national transportation and environmental regulations.
  • Enforce safety protocols for loading, unloading, and transit.
  • Maintain documentation (e.g., weighbridge data, permits, emissions records).

eam & Vendor Management

  • Supervise a team of logistics coordinators, drivers, and dispatchers.
  • Manage third-party logistics providers (3PLs) or subcontractors.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and training programs.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks (e.g., theft, damage, delay) and implement mitigation plans.
  • Handle incident reporting and insurance claims related to coal transport.

Technology & Reporting

  • Use logistics and transport management systems (TMS) to monitor and report on operations.
  • Generate reports on KPIs such as delivery performance, cost per ton, and turnaround time.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Mining, or related field (Master's preferred for senior roles).
  • 7–10 years of experience in coal or bulk commodity transportation.
  • Strong knowledge of regional and national transportation regulations.
  • Proficient in logistics software, GPS tracking systems, and Excel.
  • Excellent negotiation, planning, and leadership skills.
