Role Summary
Responsible for sourcing recyclers, selling OneStepGreener's waste inventory, and procuring raw materials needed for production, while building and managing strong relationships across the recycling ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, research, and onboard new recyclers and buyers for paper, plastic, rubber, and other recyclables.
- Use existing company databases, leads, and online platforms to contact recyclers, aggregators, and traders and convert them into regular buyers/suppliers.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, and contracts for selling waste inventory and buying raw materials required for production.
- Maintain and update a live database/CRM of all recyclers, buyers, and suppliers with volumes, prices, and terms.
- Coordinate with operations/logistics teams to ensure smooth pickups, deliveries, and documentation for all transactions.
- Monitor market prices for key recyclable materials (OCC, mixed paper, HDPE, etc.) and advise management on pricing and deal decisions.
- Build long-term strategic relationships with key recyclers, mills, and waste management companies to secure stable offtake and supply.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on volumes sold, materials procured, margins, and pipeline deals.
Requirements
- Prior experience (preferred 2–5 years) in scrap trading, recycling, waste management, or B2B industrial sales/procurement.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills; comfort talking to scrap dealers, recyclers, factory purchase teams, and corporate sustainability teams.
- Basic understanding of recyclable materials (paper grades, plastics, metals, rubber) or strong willingness to learn quickly.
- Ability to work in the field (visiting recyclers, yards, plants) as well as on calls/emails/WhatsApp to close deals.
- Good Excel/Google Sheets skills for tracking inventory, prices, and contacts; familiarity with CRMs is a plus.
- Self-driven, target-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-growing startup/NGO environment.
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Existing network in recycling, scrap yards, paper mills, plastic recyclers, or waste management companies.
- Experience with EPR, sustainability, or circular economy projects.
- Fluency in English and Hindi (and relevant local language, depending on location).
KPIs / Targets
- Monthly volume of waste sold (MT) and average realized price.
- Monthly value/volume of raw materials procured at or below target cost.
- Number of active recycler/buyer/supplier accounts developed.
- Gross margin per tonne and deal conversion rate from leads.
