Business Development Manager – Solar

Location: Coimbatore

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary:

The Solar BDM is responsible for identifying business opportunities, generating leads, developing client relationships, and achieving sales targets in rooftop, utility, or industrial solar segments. The role involves end-to-end sales management—from prospecting to closure.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Lead Generation & Market Development

  • Identify potential clients in industrial, commercial, residential, and institutional sectors.
  • Develop new business opportunities through networking, cold calls, digital platforms, and referrals.
  • Conduct market research to track competitors and industry trends.

2. Sales & Client Acquisition

  • Handle inquiries, conduct site assessments with the technical team, and present proposals.
  • Pitch solar solutions (Rooftop, Ground-Mounted, Hybrid, O&M, etc.) to clients.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and close deals to meet sales targets.

3. Client Relationship Management

  • Maintain strong relationships with key accounts, influencers, and decision-makers.
  • Support clients through onboarding, documentation, and contract signing.
  • Follow up on leads consistently until conversion.

4. Proposal & Coordination Support

  • Coordinate with technical, design, proposals, and finance teams for quotes and tenders.
  • Prepare and submit RFQs, RFPs, techno-commercial proposals, and presentations.

5. Sales Targets & Reporting

  • Achieve monthly/quarterly revenue and order booking goals.
  • Maintain CRM/lead tracker and submit regular sales reports to management.

6. Tendering & Strategic Partnerships

  • Participate in government/PSU/commercial tenders where applicable.
  • Build partnerships with OEMs, EPCs, consultants, and channel partners.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Engineering/Business Management
  • 2–8 years of experience in Solar/Energy/Power/Infrastructure Sales
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Knowledge of solar EPC solutions, subsidies, policies, DISCOM approvals, and net metering
  • Proficiency in CRM tools and MS Office
