Job Description:

A "HEAD - ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY" (also known as an EHS Head or HSE Manager) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing an organization's Environmental, Health, and Safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a safe workplace. Key duties include creating policies, conducting audits, training staff, investigating incidents, managing budgets, and analyzing data to improve safety performance and environmental sustainability.  

Core responsibilities

  • Policy and procedure development: 
    Create, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements and best practices. 


  • Regulatory compliance: 
    Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and national environmental and safety regulations. 


  • Training and education: 
    Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on safety procedures, emergency protocols, and environmental responsibilities. 


  • Audits and inspections: 
    Conduct regular internal and external audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance. 


  • Incident investigation: 
    Lead or participate in the investigation of accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. 


  • Risk management: 
    Identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement corrective and preventative actions. 


  • Budget management: 
    Prepare and manage the annual EHS budget, including costs for materials, training, and new programs. 


  • Performance monitoring: 
    Track EHS performance metrics, analyze trends, and provide reports to senior management on safety and environmental performance. 


  • Environmental program management: 
    Oversee initiatives to reduce environmental impact, such as waste management and recycling programs. 


  • Liaison: 
    Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and assist other departments with EHS-related issues. 



Key skills and qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of EHS laws and standards (e.g., ISO 14001, OSHAS
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with risk assessment and incident investigation.
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization, from senior management to front-line employees.
