A Fitter is a skilled tradesperson who assembles, installs, and maintains mechanical systems and equipment. They work with various tools and machinery to fabricate, fit, and repair metal components, ensuring the proper functioning of machinery and structures. Fitters often work in construction, manufacturing, and maintenance settings, and their responsibilities can vary depending on the industry and specific role. 

Key Responsibilities of a Fitter:

  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints:
    Fitters use these documents to understand the specifications and requirements for assembling, installing, or repairing equipment. 


  • Assembling and installing mechanical systems:
    This involves fitting together various components, ensuring proper alignment and functionality. 


  • Maintaining and repairing machinery and equipment:
    Fitters perform routine maintenance checks, diagnose issues, and repair or replace damaged parts. 


  • Using hand and power tools:
    They use a range of tools, including wrenches, drills, saws, and welding equipment, to cut, shape, and fit materials. 


  • Fabricating metal components:
    In some roles, fitters may be involved in cutting, shaping, and welding metal to create custom parts or assemblies. 


  • Ensuring safety and compliance:
    Fitters adhere to health and safety regulations and procedures, maintaining a safe work environment. 


  • Collaborating with other team members:

Types of Fitters:

Skills and Qualifications:
