Job Requirements
As a Purchase Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the procurement processes for both direct and indirect materials, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance standards. Your role will involve converting approved Purchase Requisitions (PRs) into Purchase Orders (POs) within the ERP system, soliciting and evaluating budgetary quotations from suppliers, and managing supplier performance to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials. You will also oversee the preparation and circulation of Management Information System (MIS) reports, monitor procurement savings, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance procurement efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Direct Materials Procurement: Manage the procurement of materials directly involved in the production process, including raw materials and components. This involves converting approved PRs into POs within the SAP ERP system, soliciting and evaluating budgetary quotations from suppliers, and ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of materials.
- Indirect Materials Procurement: Oversee the procurement of materials and services that support day-to-day operations but are not directly used in production, such as office supplies, IT services, and facility management. This includes managing the end-to-end procurement process, from requisitioning and supplier selection to order placement and delivery tracking.
- Budgetary Quotations: Solicit and evaluate budgetary quotations from suppliers for raw materials, components, and goods that are directly involved in the production of the company's final products.
- Supplier Performance Management: Regularly assessing supplier performance based on quality, delivery, and service metrics. Implement corrective actions and engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supplier reliability and performance.
- MIS Reporting: Prepare and circulate Management Information System reports, providing insights into procurement activities, supplier performance, and cost savings initiatives.
- Compliance Assurance: Ensure all procurement activities adhere to legal and organizational compliance standards, including contract terms, payment conditions, and regulatory requirements.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements within the procurement function. Implement best practices and continuous improvement strategies to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
- Procurement Savings: Develop and execute strategies aimed at achieving procurement savings through effective negotiation, supplier consolidation, and process optimization.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Quality Assurance, Finance, and Warehouse teams to ensure seamless procurement operations and resolve any issues promptly.
- Documentation Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records, including contracts, purchase orders, and supplier communications, ensuring easy retrieval and compliance with audit requirements.
Qualifications/ Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in procurement or purchasing within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in SAP ERP systems, particularly in modules related to procurement and materials management.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to assess supplier quotations, performance metrics, and identify areas for cost savings.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Compliance Knowledge: In-depth understanding of procurement laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Continuous Improvement Mindset: Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and implement cost-saving initiatives within procurement functions.
- SAP MM Module knowledge desirable
- Knowledge of safety, health, environmental standards relevant to manufacturing.
- Able to work with minimal supervision, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and communicate effectively at all levels
- Familiar with a Global Organisational Structure
- Experience in the manufacturing processes of non-woven needle punched fabrics, and secondary processes such as wet treatments and laminations
