The Role: Associate Director - Software Engineer
The Team:
The OSTTRA Technology team is composed of Capital Markets Technology professionals, who build, support and protect the applications that operate our network. The technology landscape includes high-performance, high-volume applications as well as compute intensive applications, leveraging contemporary microservices, cloud-based architectures.

What's in it for you:
We are looking for a hands-on Technical Lead – Java with 12 to 15 years of experience who can lead a team of developers while actively contributing to system design and complex coding tasks. The ideal candidate should have deep proficiency in Core Java, strong database skills, excellent code review practices, and the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders, prioritize work, and drive task distribution across the team. This role is a blend of technical leadership, team mentoring, and project ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding of, contribution towards and alignment with the tech strategy of OSTTRA
  • Lead end-to-end design, development and maintenance of scalable/distributed critical services, requiring high throughput.
  • Hands-on development and fair experience of designing technical architecture while guiding the team on technical execution. Liase with enterprise architecture on more complex or new initiatives that are cross cutting
  • Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define scope, and influence priorities.
  • Perform peer code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Distribute work across the team, manage delivery timelines, and ensure workload balance.
  • Drive sprint planning, estimation, and progress tracking.
  • Identify technical risks and provide proactive solutions or mitigations.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to developers and ensure team growth. Troubleshoot complex application and database issues in production and development environments.

What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Core Technical Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in Core Java, including OOP, Collections, Multithreading, and Java 8+ features.
  • Strong experience in Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.
  • Exposure to React / Angular UI
  • Familiarity with ORM frameworks like Hibernate/JPA.
  • Solid understanding of system design, design patterns, and architectural best practices.
  • Strong experience in version control (Git), build tools (Maven/Gradle), and logging (SLF4J/Logback).
  • Exposure to testing frameworks like JUnit, Mockito.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Past experience of Investment management ( or BFSI in general)
  • In-depth knowledge and proven experience of SQL and RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) with strong database design and query tuning skills.

  • Strong stakeholder communication and expectation management.
  • Excellent work prioritization and task delegation capabilities.
  • Proven team leadership, mentorship, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight timelines
