Key Responsibilities:Pre-Operative Duties:

  • Prepare the operation theatre with necessary instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
  • Check and ensure functionality of surgical instruments and equipment before procedures.
  • Assist in patient preparation before surgery, including positioning and skin preparation.
  • Verify patient identity, surgical site, and consent as part of the pre-operative checklist.

Intra-Operative Duties:

  • Assist the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during surgery.
  • Maintain strict aseptic techniques at all times.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide required materials promptly.
  • Count instruments, sponges, and needles with circulating nurse before and after surgery.
  • Ensure safe handling of specimens for investigation.

Post-Operative Duties:

  • Assist in safe transfer of the patient to the recovery area.
  • Clean and restock the theatre for the next surgery.
  • Ensure proper decontamination and sterilization of instruments.
  • Record and report any incidents, equipment malfunctions, or shortages.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate surgical records and instrument count sheets.
  • Report surgical outcomes and any deviations to the OT Incharge.
  • Update inventory of sterile supplies and consumables.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures.
  • Excellent aseptic and infection control practices.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and patient safety.

Qualification & Experience:

  • GNM / B.Sc Nursing (Registered Nurse with State Nursing Council).
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in Operation Theatre, preferably as a scrub nurse.

Work Conditions:

  • Rotational shifts as per OT schedule.
  • On-call duties during emergencies.
  • Adherence to hospital infection control and safety policies.
