Journal Coordinator – Open Access

Role Summary

The Journal Coordinator – Open Access plays a key role in the editorial operations of scientific / medical journals. This position involves handling article submissions, coordinating the peer review process, maintaining communication with authors, reviewers, and editors, and ensuring smooth publication workflow. The ideal candidate ensures quality, timeliness, and stakeholder satisfaction across all journal processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and update the database of article submissions and track progress through the review and publication pipeline. Glassdoor
• Check manuscripts for errors, inconsistencies, and make corrections before moving forward in the process. Glassdoor
• Screen incoming submissions as the first point of contact and forward them to the review department. Glassdoor
• Generate and assign a manuscript identification number for each new submission. Glassdoor
• Liaise with authors, editors, and reviewers by email / phone to provide status updates, request revisions, and clarify queries. Glassdoor
• Work with tele-caller / outreach teams to follow up on submissions or queries—try to convert "negative / undecided" queries into accepted submissions. Glassdoor
• Collect and maintain detailed author and reviewer profiles (contact info, publication history, research interests) for journal indexing and outreach. Glassdoor
• Ensure the manuscript is processed for publication (PDF, HTML, e-print formats) in collaboration with web development / production teams. Glassdoor
• Handle queries from different nationalities / subject areas in a professional manner. Glassdoor

Qualifications & Experience

• Postgraduate degree (MSc or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy or allied streams Glassdoor
• Exposure or experience in scientific publishing, journal management, or editorial coordination is desirable.
• Prior work in handling manuscripts, editing, or academic content is a plus.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

• Revenue Target: Monthly and quarterly goals linked to APCs, article acceptance, and special issues.
• Abstract Target: Number of abstracts extracted, curated, and processed each month.
• Quality Metrics: Peer review turnaround time, editorial decision accuracy, and author satisfaction.
