The Restaurant Captain is responsible for supervising the service team, ensuring smooth restaurant operations, delivering high-quality guest service, and maintaining service standards. The role acts as a link between guests, service staff, and management to ensure guest satisfaction and efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Service & Satisfaction
- Welcome and seat guests, ensuring they are comfortable.
- Take food & beverage orders accurately and ensure timely service.
- Handle guest complaints and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure personalized service to regular and VIP guests.
Team Supervision
- Supervise waiters, stewards, and service staff during operations.
- Assign tables, tasks, and sections to team members.
- Train and guide staff on service standards, upselling, and guest handling.
Operations & Standards
- Ensure tables are properly set up and maintained as per hotel standards.
- Coordinate with kitchen and bar staff for smooth food & beverage service.
- Monitor cleanliness, hygiene, and safety in the restaurant.
- Check bills before presentation and ensure accurate billing.
Sales & Upselling
- Suggest menu items and promotions to guests.
- Encourage upselling of food, beverages, and special offers.
- Assist in achieving restaurant sales targets.
Reporting & Coordination
- Prepare shift reports and communicate operational issues to the Restaurant Manager.
- Ensure compliance with hotel SOPs, licensing, and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments (kitchen, housekeeping, accounts) for smooth operations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma/Degree in Hotel Management or equivalent.
- 2–4 years of experience in F&B service, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Good knowledge of food, beverages, wines, and service techniques.
- Strong leadership, communication, and guest-handling skills.
- Ability to train, motivate, and manage a team.
- Presentable, courteous, and customer-service oriented.
