Business Development Manager

We are seeking a high-performing and strategy-driven Business Development Manager / AVP – Business Development to lead international sales growth and client engagement across the U.S., Europe, and/or APAC markets.
This is a strategic and execution-focused role that involves managing client relationships, leading sales initiatives, and collaborating with internal teams (Sales, Research, Content, and Outreach) to drive business outcomes.
You'll thrive in this role if you have a strong background in selling services and SaaS products, especially in patent research. We need someone who can not only execute sales initiatives but also deeply understand client needs and translate them into impactful, tailored solutions.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities:
- Sales Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute international business development strategies to meet sales targets across key global regions.
- Client Engagement: Build rapport with prospects, present tailored solutions, and convert leads into long-term clients.
- Team Collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams including calling, content, data mining, and marketing to align efforts for maximum impact.
- Campaign Management: Provide strategic direction for outbound campaigns, ensure follow-through by the team, and assist in refining the sales funnel.
- Solution Mapping: Translate technical or domain-specific client needs into actionable service proposals and engagement models.
- Market Expansion: Identify new markets and opportunities for growth, and implement plans for outreach and penetration.
- Performance Monitoring: Track business development metrics and contribute to the continuous improvement of sales processes.
Required Qualifications and Expertise:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Experience: 5-12 years of experience in international business development, with a strong preference for backgrounds in SaaS or knowledge services (e.g., patents, business research, legal, market intelligence).
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrable success in closing deals and consistently achieving revenue targets.
- Global B2B Expertise: Extensive experience in global B2B client interaction, including cold calling, solution selling, and expertly navigating complex conversations.
- Strategic Acumen: Strong strategic thinking with the ability to lead multi-functional initiatives.
- Leadership Exposure: Experience managing or mentoring a team of business development executives and coordinating with cross-functional units.
- Domain Understanding: Technical or domain-specific knowledge to effectively articulate service benefits to sophisticated clients.
Nice to Have:
- Prior experience in business development roles specifically within patent research firms.
- Familiarity with CRM tools, outbound email campaigns, and lead nurturing workflows.
- Experience participating in or driving RFP responses, client onboarding, or long-cycle enterprise deals.
