The role involves generating leads, conducting site visits, preparing proposals, and closing sales. Key responsibilities
- Lead generation and sales: Actively identify, prospect, and qualify new clients through various methods, including cold-calling, networking, and referrals, to build a robust sales pipeline.
- Customer consultations: Conduct in-person and virtual meetings with residential and commercial customers to assess their specific energy needs and budget.
- Site assessments: Perform site evaluations to determine suitability for solar equipment, considering factors such as a building's structure, climate, shading, and energy usage patterns.
- Proposal development: Create and present customized solar proposals, system designs, and cost-benefit analyses that include potential energy savings and return on investment (ROI).
- Sales process management: Guide clients through the entire sales cycle, from the initial consultation to finalizing contracts and securing commitments.
- Product and industry expertise: Stay current on the latest solar technology, financing options, government incentives (like tax rebates), and local regulations to serve as a trusted advisor to clients.
- Collaboration: Work with other departments, such as technical, engineering, and installation teams, to ensure a seamless and timely delivery of projects.
- Customer Relationship Management: Maintain strong, ongoing relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction, address issues, and generate repeat business and referrals.
- Record keeping: Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to track sales activities, manage customer information, and forecast sales.
Required skills and qualifications
- Education: While a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field is often preferred, a high school diploma or equivalent is the minimum requirement for many entry-level positions. Industry-specific certifications can also be beneficial.
- Experience: Candidates should have a proven track record in sales, with some roles preferring experience in the renewable energy, home improvement, or other high-ticket sales industries.
- Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills are critical for success.
- Technical knowledge: A solid understanding of solar equipment, system design, and the installation process is required, though training may be provided.
- Self-motivation: The ideal candidate is a self-starter with an unstoppable drive to exceed sales goals in a target-driven environment.
- Interpersonal skills: The ability to build rapport and trust quickly with customers is essential for consultative sales.
- Travel and logistics: A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are often necessary, as the job may require traveling to meet with clients at various locations.
