Wärtsilä Defence Solutions Ltd (WDSL) based in the UK is the Centre of Excellence for submarine shaft lines, trusted by over 75 navies worldwide. As part of Wärtsilä Shaft Line Solutions (SLS), we deliver complete, mission-critical shaft line solutions for submarines and naval vessels.

Role

The SLS business is pursuing an exciting growth strategy and to accelerate our momentum, we are seeking to add an experienced manager to our Business Development Team.

The Role requires an individual to operate at a senior level to develop a strategy and its execution for the continued and accelerated growth of the navy and specifically the submarine business in India. Using the existing surface and sub-surface portfolio to grow our position on the new build and sustainment activities across the continent.

The successful candidate will be employed on a TBC basis and will work alongside the current Wartsila team in India. Owning and be responsible for delivering on the most important strategic pursuits and opportunities resulting in timely, compelling and competitive approaches and proposals that meet both customer and business needs.

Manages the execution of plans and processes to achieve long-term objectives within the Business, impacting multiple stakeholders and customers.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a dynamic, growth-minded individual with experience in developing business opportunities, setting strategy and responding to complex large scale customer enquiries.

The candidate will demonstrate a passionate customer-focus, on time delivery, a strong sense of ownership, be commercially aware, be comfortable working in a technical and engineering environment and be able to demonstrate a track-record of setting and implementing growth strategies for a business in a multi sector (surface and sub-surface naval marine) environment.

Proven record of winning complex new work integrating in-house and third-party products and solutions.

Possesses a breadth of knowledge within the India defence naval sector applying expert knowledge as a reference point for the global team.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of strategic and tactical plans for business growth including development of products and services, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions.

  • Provides leadership and objective setting for the business whilst ensuring alignment of business development plans and activities with the company's overall strategy and financial objectives.

  • Drives the identification and assessment of new business opportunities, including partnerships, and new market entries.

  • Develops and maintains partnerships and relationships with key customers, industry players, and partners, to support business growth strategies.

Other Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead meetings and negotiations with potential clients and business partners to pursue business opportunities and protect the organization's business interests.

  • Coordinates, manages and partakes in analysis, research and benchmarking activities to inform business decisions and strategic direction.

  • Fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within business development.

  • Working with the Sales team to ensure there is a differentiated value proposition and ensuring the value proposition is prominent in bid responses

  • Leads the identification and evaluation of new business opportunities and sales leads, leading and participating in sales activities and aligning activities with the organization's goals.

Education,-:-Navy Background

Essential:

  • Willingness to adopt the Wartsila culture.
  • Experience and able to work in and with the Indian defence community.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as a senior manager in a defence environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and can demonstrate a team working ethos.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills at all including at Senior Management levels.

Desirable:

  • Experience dealing with sub-contractors and partner businesses.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Able to operate with overseas clients in the Defence sector.
  • Degree level qualification. (any subject)
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office Tools.
