Finance Controller - Hotel Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Finance Controller in a hotel is responsible for managing and overseeing all financial aspects of the hotel’s operations. This includes budget preparation, financial reporting, accounting, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and procedures. The role requires strategic financial planning, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the hospitality industry.

Key Responsibilities:

- **Financial Planning and Budgeting**:

- Prepare and manage the hotel’s annual budget, forecasting revenue, expenses, and profits.
- Ensure financial goals are met through careful planning, cost control, and revenue maximization.
- Analyze financial trends and market conditions to optimize financial performance.
- **Financial Reporting**:

- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow analysis.
- Provide insights on financial performance, identifying areas for improvement or growth.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.
- **Cash Flow and Treasury Management**:

- Monitor cash flow and ensure that the hotel maintains sufficient liquidity to meet operational and investment needs.
- Manage the hotel’s bank relationships and oversee daily cash management.
- Implement financial controls to prevent fraud and errors in the management of hotel funds.
- **Internal Controls and Compliance**:

- Establish and maintain effective internal controls and financial systems to ensure compliance with financial policies, accounting principles, and tax regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify potential issues and take corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with local and international tax regulations, managing tax filings and payments.
- **Team Management and Leadership**:

- Lead, train, and supervise the finance team, ensuring proper accounting procedures and efficient performance.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure budget adherence and cost control across departments.
- Provide training and guidance to staff regarding financial best practices and procedures.
- **Cost Control and Profitability**:

- Implement strategies for controlling operating costs while maximizing revenue and profitability.
- Regularly review expenses across all departments and recommend areas for cost reduction.
- Evaluate pricing strategies and the hotel’s financial performance to ensure competitive market positioning.
- **Financial Analysis and Strategy**:

- Analyze financial data and industry trends to provide actionable recommendations to hotel management.
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop financial strategies that support business goals and growth objectives.
- Monitor performance against budget and provide feedback to senior management.
- **Guest and Vendor Billing**:

- Oversee billing processes for both guests and vendors, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
- Work closely with the sales and operations teams to address billing inquiries and discrepancies.

Skills and Qualifications:

- **Education**: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field is required. A Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is a plus.
- **Experience**: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial management, preferably within the hospitality or hotel industry.
- **Technical Skills**:

- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Oracle, SAP, or industry-specific software like Opera).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for financial modeling and analysis.
- **Analytical Skills**: Strong ability to interpret and analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide strategic financial recommendations.
- **Leadership**: Experience in leading and managing finance teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- **Attention to Detail**: Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- **Time Management**: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- **Industry Knowledge**: In-depth understanding of the hospitality industry, including operational, financial, and legal aspects.

Working Conditions:

- Full-time position.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work, especially during peak seasons or financial closing periods.
- Occasional travel to other hotel properties may be required.

This role plays a key part in ensuring the hotel remains financially healthy, making informed decisions that affect profitability, efficiency, and long-term success. The Finance Controller must possess both a strong financial acumen and a deep understanding of the hospitality industry’s unique financial dynamics.
