**Job Title: VMware Data Center Administrator / vCenter AdministratorJob Summary**:
The VMware Data Center Administrator is responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of VMware-based virtualized environments. This includes vSphere and vCenter, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security of virtual infrastructure in a data center. The role requires expertise in VMware products, virtualization technologies, and data center operations, ensuring that virtualized systems are configured and running efficiently to meet organizational needs.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **VMware vSphere & vCenter Management**:
- Administer and manage VMware vSphere and vCenter Server environments, ensuring stable, reliable, and high-performance operations.
- Perform regular system checks, upgrades, and patches for vSphere clusters, ESXi hosts, and vCenter Server.
- Manage the configuration and maintenance of virtual machines, resource pools, and datastores.
- Monitor and troubleshoot vCenter-related issues including performance, networking, and storage problems.
- **Virtualization Infrastructure Deployment**:
- Design, deploy, and configure VMware vSphere clusters, virtual machines, and other virtualization infrastructure components.
- Manage virtualized storage solutions, such as VMware vSAN, ensuring data integrity, redundancy, and optimal performance.
- Implement and maintain high-availability configurations, such as vSphere HA (High Availability), DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler), and VMotion.
- **System Monitoring & Performance Tuning**:
- Utilize VMware monitoring tools like vRealize Operations Manager to ensure the health and performance of the VMware infrastructure.
- Proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks or issues within virtualized environments.
- Optimize the performance of ESXi hosts, virtual machines, and storage to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
- **Automation & Scripting**:
- Automate routine VMware tasks using PowerShell, PowerCLI, or other scripting tools.
- Develop and maintain scripts for system configuration, provisioning, backups, and patches to reduce manual intervention and improve efficiency.
- **Disaster Recovery & Backup**:
- Implement and maintain disaster recovery strategies for VMware environments, ensuring quick restoration of services in the event of failure.
- Ensure backup policies are defined and operational for virtual machines and critical data in the virtualized environment.
- **Security & Compliance**:
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, internal policies, and security best practices, including vulnerability management.
- Implement and enforce role-based access controls (RBAC) and other security mechanisms within vCenter and ESXi hosts.
- **Documentation & Reporting**:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of the VMware infrastructure, including architecture, configuration, and operational procedures.
- Generate reports on system health, performance, and capacity usage to support decision-making and future planning.
- **Collaboration & Support**:
- Work closely with network, storage, and security teams to ensure that VMware systems integrate well within the broader IT infrastructure.
- Provide support and troubleshooting for VMware-related issues across different departments or for end-users.
- Train and mentor junior staff on VMware best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
**Required Skills and Qualifications**:
- **Experience**:
- 3+ years of experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter Server, and other VMware products in a data center environment.
- Experience in deploying, configuring, and managing virtual machines, storage, and networking in VMware-based systems.
- Strong understanding of virtualization concepts, such as hypervisors, virtual networking, storage virtualization, and resource management.
- **Technical Skills**:
- Proficiency in VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and vSAN management.
- Knowledge of VMware vRealize Operations, vSphere HA, DRS, and VMotion.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery tools, disaster recovery solutions, and high-availability configurations.
- **Scripting & Automation**:
- Experience with PowerShell, PowerCLI, or other automation tools for VMware environment management.
- **Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting**:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues in a virtualized infrastructure.
- Ability to resolve issues related to network connectivity, storage performance, and virtual machine operations.
- **Soft Skills**:
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work under pressure.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) in Data Center Virtualization or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP).
- Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation or hybrid cloud architectures.
