**Position Overview**: The Hotel Captain in a pub setting is responsible for supervising and coordinating the service staff to ensure that guests receive excellent service and have an enjoyable experience. This role involves managing daily operations on the floor, maintaining high standards of service, and handling guest interactions. The Hotel Captain also assists in training staff and ensuring smooth communication between the kitchen and the service team.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Team Supervision**:
- Lead and manage the service staff, including waiters, bartenders, and busboys, ensuring they deliver exceptional service.
- Assign duties and monitor the performance of the team during shifts.
- Provide training and guidance to new staff, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
- **Guest Relations**:
- Greet and interact with guests, ensuring their needs are met and they have a positive dining experience.
- Address and resolve any guest complaints or issues promptly and professionally.
- Oversee the seating arrangements and manage table reservations to optimize guest satisfaction and seating efficiency.
- **Service Quality Management**:
- Ensure that all service staff adhere to the established service standards and protocols.
- Monitor the cleanliness and presentation of the dining area, ensuring it meets the pub’s standards.
- Coordinate with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of food and beverages.
- **Order Management**:
- Assist in taking orders during busy periods, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Oversee the billing process, ensuring that checks are accurate and payments are processed smoothly.
- Monitor inventory levels of service-related items, such as glassware, cutlery, and napkins, and request replenishments as needed.
- **Operational Support**:
- Assist the management in planning and organizing special events or promotions within the pub.
- Conduct briefings with the staff before shifts to communicate any important information or special instructions.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards in the pub.
**Qualifications**:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or diploma in hospitality management is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Captain, Head Waiter, or in a supervisory role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a pub or casual dining setting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle difficult situations with poise.
- Knowledge of food and beverage operations, including service techniques and bar operations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
**Working Conditions**:
- This position typically works in a lively pub environment, requiring evening and weekend shifts.
- Physical stamina is needed, as the role involves standing for long periods and moving between the dining area, bar, and kitchen.
