Reports To: Vice President of Global Markets / CEO

Position Summary:

The General Manager, International Business (ROW Markets), is a senior leadership position responsible for driving the growth and strategic expansion of the pharmaceutical company’s business across Rest of World (ROW) markets. This role will oversee all aspects of the company’s international operations outside of core markets (e.g., North America, Europe and Brazil) and ensure alignment with overall corporate objectives, while adapting to regional market dynamics, regulatory requirements, and competitive landscapes. The GM will lead teams in business development, sales, marketing, operations, regulatory affairs, and supply chain management to strengthen the company’s presence and market share in diverse international markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Leadership & Market Expansion
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for business growth across ROW markets, with a focus on emerging and high-growth regions.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and alliances to drive market entry, expansion, and share growth.
  • Lead market research initiatives to understand regional trends, competitive landscapes, regulatory changes, and customer needs, ensuring the company's offerings are positioned effectively.
  1. P&L Management
  • Own the financial performance of the ROW markets, including budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor market performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed revenue and profitability targets.
  • Optimize cost structures, ensuring efficient operations and maximizing return on investments across various regions.
  1. Sales & Commercial Operations
  • Lead a diverse team to drive sales targets and execution of the global sales strategy in alignment with regional market dynamics.
  • Build and manage relationships with key customers, distributors, local partners, and stakeholders to expand market presence.
  • Ensure effective sales force management, training, and performance evaluation to achieve commercial objectives.
  1. Regulatory Affairs & Compliance
  • Have a good understanding of regulatory landscape of different markets in ROW region and work closely with the regulatory affairs team to navigate complex regulatory environments to ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Oversee the market access strategy for ROW regions, ensuring timely approvals and product launches.
  • Monitor and manage product life cycles, pricing, and reimbursement strategies across diverse international markets.
  1. Supply Chain & Operations Management
  • Collaborate with global supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure product availability, quality, and distribution across ROW markets.
  • Oversee logistics, inventory management, and local distribution networks to ensure cost-effective and timely product delivery.
  • Implement effective risk management strategies to address supply chain disruptions and regional challenges.
  1. Team Leadership & Talent Development
  • Build, lead, and inspire cross-functional teams, including regional managers, sales, marketing, regulatory, and operational personnel.
  • Foster a collaborative, results-oriented culture while ensuring the team is equipped with the tools and skills to succeed.
  • Promote talent development, succession planning, and knowledge sharing across regions.
  1. Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis
  • Stay abreast of market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes that may impact business performance.
  • Provide company management with regular updates on the competitive landscape and market dynamics in ROW regions.
  • Develop and execute strategies to maintain competitive advantage in each target market.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business Administration, International Business, or related field. MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry, with at least 5-7 years in a senior management role in international business development or operations.
  • Strong experience in managing P&L for international markets, particularly in emerging and developing economies.
  • Proven track record of successfully expanding business operations in ROW markets (e.g., LATAM, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, CIS).
  • Deep knowledge of pharmaceutical sales, marketing, regulatory, and supply chain operations in global markets.
  • Experience in managing cross-cultural teams and working with multi-disciplinary departments in a global context.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams across different geographies.
  • In-depth understanding of pharmaceutical industry regulations, market access strategies, and commercial operations.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly analytical, with a strategic mindset and the ability to drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficient in project management, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to navigate and manage complex, matrixed global organizations.

Travel Requirements:

This role may require significant travel to key international markets (up to 30-40% travel, depending on location).
