The role of a Director of Urban Development is crucial in overseeing the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of state-level Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) schemes.

This involves leading large-scale urban housing projects across multiple stakeholders and departments, developing annual action plans, and coordinating city-level, district-level, and municipal teams for effective delivery.

The Director will also be responsible for supervising project management activities including timelines, budgeting, fund utilization, beneficiary identification, and progress tracking. Additionally, they will prepare and manage Request for Proposals (RFPs), bidding documents, and oversee bid management ensuring government compliance.

Collaboration with stakeholders such as state, municipal, central government officials, private developers, financial institutions, consultants, and communities is also a key aspect of this role.

Key Skills Required:

  • Project Management: Real-time progress tracking, strategic planning, and team leadership.
  • Financial Management: IT, data analytics, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving.
  • Team Leadership: Capacity building, negotiation, analytical skills, and proficiency in Marathi and English (verbal and written).
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of social inclusion, urban governance, and state housing policy framework.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Engineering, Management, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Computer Science, Finance, or related fields.
  • Additional certifications in Project Management (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP), Data Analytics, or MIS.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 9 years in project/program management, including at least 4-5 years handling government, housing, infrastructure, or urban development projects.
  • Proven experience in centrally sponsored/central government schemes, including fund management and implementation at state level or with government consulting assignments.
  • Hands-on experience with IT systems, MIS, and team management.
